Week One Journal

The internet has a huge impact on my everyday life. I take my courses through Ashford University online and the great majority of my job relies on internet-based software. In my personal life, the internet is the backbone of my smartphone and smart TV. I am on social media minimally, but that is still internet based. I also use my Gmail account for photo and music backup from my phone, which is also cloud-based internet storage.

The internet affects my buying habits moderately. I still purchase products from physical stores more than online. I use Amazon for things that are hard to find in my rural area or something that I want to find cheaper. Since I live about an hour and a half away from any store more substantial than a small-ish Wal-Mart, sometimes Amazon has just the availability and price I’m looking for. Otherwise, I still want to go to the store and touch or try on items. Especially when I am shopping for clothing, there is just no substitute to trying on a pair of jeans and getting the perfect fit. There is a little bit of distrust in using my cards online as well. I try to only order from very trusted sites like Amazon or Wal-Mart that have better track records. Most of my internet use in regard to purchases is researching products & alternatives, and checking store availability. My Facebook account helps me to have a better awareness of sales and promotions at the stores I frequent, like Cabelas.
